Many of us judge ourselves and make our decisions based on what 
people think about us.  Even though we may influence others, we 
can't control what others think of us.  When was the last time you 
intended to help someone and "they took it the wrong way"? 

When we constantly work for the approval of others, without regard 
for our own desires and dreams, we rob ourselves of serenity. At 
some point in our lives, we need to make choices because they are 
wholesome and well-thought-out choices, not solely because of the 
effects we think our choices will have on opinions others have of us.
